Unable to send outgoing mails through Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express.
This is one of the most frequently encountered problems with people trying to configure their POP3 emails on either Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express. The solution for both are given below. The steps could slightly vary depending on the version of the particular email client you are using, however, they will be more or less the same.
Solution for Outlook Express:
- Go to Tools >> Account Settings
- Within Account Setting select the E-mail tab.
- Select the email from within the list which is creating the problem and click on Change.
- You will be taken to Change E-mail Account window.
- Click on More Setting… and select the tab Outgoing Server
- Make sure that My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication is ticked. (selected)
- Make sure Use same settings as my incoming mail server radio button is selected.
- Click on OK. The window will disappear.
- On Change Email Account windows click on Next > and click on Finish.
- Check your outgoing emails by sending an email through this account. Outgoing emails should work now.
Solution for Outlook Express:
- Go to Tools >> Accounts
- From within the Internet Accounts dialog box, select the Mail tab.
- From the list of emails given below, select the email that is unable to send outgoing emails and click on Properties. A new dialog box will pop up.
- From within the new dialog box, select Servers tab.
- Make sure that My server requires authentication is ticked.
- Then click on Settings (a new dialog box will open) and make sure that Use same settings as my incoming mail server is selected. Then click OK to close that dialog box.
- Now click on Apply and then OK to close the email properties dialog box.
- Now your particular email has been configured to send outgoing emails.
- You may similarly choose other emails from within the list to configure them. Or just click on Close to close the open dialog when you are finished.
- Test your new emails settings now by sending an outgoing email and it should work now.
